low stakes online vs higher stakes and casino play
By Tim Johnson on 09-07-2008 7:15 AM

I am very dubious about the integrity of several online poker companies. I am accumulating evidence that people playing small stakes games are getting skun by several large companies. I have had inside word that "the powers that be" within said companies beleive that small stakes customers won't pursue action over such small losses and are thus fair game. My experience, and everyone I know who plays indicates that good hands are given to entice big bets from "targets". The fact that more loose bets on these low stake games is "expected" is used as a potential defence. I have several freinds in law enforcement and political arena's who agree and may take things further. Granted online play is much faster than casino play, but in my own experience shocking beats per hand are horrifically larger playing low stakes games online than live and significantly worse than playing high stakes games online.

The publication of the disgraceful conduct of Absolute Poer recently was only as a result of the accidental sending of a players hand histories, indicating implicit fraud on the part of Absolute Poker. There is nothing to say that other companies are also engagine in such conduct. They in my book are simply not sending out self-incriminating evidence as Absolute Poker did. Had they not, they would still be skinning people.

Human nature indicates that people will try to take advantage of a situation if they think they can get away with it. In my opinion, lack of transparency and jurisdiction is leading to just that here.

Just for the record, i've taken worse beats live than i have online and ive played hundreds of thousands of hands online. I can say without doubt that the big sites (pokerstars and full tilt) are not rigged or scams in any way. The only way they are minting all that money is through raking hands and tournaments. Please stop posting insane accusations if you have no proof. And also don't accuse someone for working with the sites when they do ask for proof. The entire US justice system works through proof. What you are doing, is called communism.

The only skinning of the low stakes players is the horrid $.20-.25 rakes on the $1 SNGs.

<<bad beats

How are they going to think they are goiing to get caught when they are the ones watching the store and no-one else. On-line is so rigged its so obvious all these sites should go to jail, what they are doing is stealing from players at will.

This Is How and Why Poker Sites Are "Rigged" Hide this thread in the future Add this post as a favorite

I am a junior investor in a group building 3 hotels and 1 casino in the US. We were in the process of starting an online poker site but the gaming commission insinuated that our gaming license could be revoked under current laws even though we would not accept US customers.

We contracted with a gaming software company that specialized in poker and gambling sites. They claim to have worked on many of the major sites.Due to nondisclosure and confidentiality agreements they can not name names, nor can we.They can give hints such as saying they designed one of the top 2 sites.

During our several meetings they showed us how and why to manipulate the cards. The money is made from rake and tourny fees.In cash games if you let the hands win that should post flop you will end up with a site full of expert players.Example hand would be KK vs QTo on K73 rb flop.KK should win over 95% of the time.I am guessing at percentages.Turn river JA.What you program or adjust is what percentage a flopped set loses to a runner runner straight or flush. As long starting hands hold up within a few percentage points of what they should it can be explained as variance and when someone complains on a forum of the site being rigged , they will be flamed, ridiculed. laughed at and told it is variance or a bad beat.

By adjusting the percentages like this also tackles another problem, the Bots.Since most bots are based on math you dont have to spend a lot of time chasing them down. That is why when someone complains about a suspected bot and puts it on a forum and the poker site responds by saying they have tools in place to identify a bot and they wont give many details. It seems like they are not doing anything and they aren't. It is just PR.The only time a site has to worry about a bot is if it has the percentages figured out.

This is just a quick snippet of what can be done but as the software company said, they can program anything we want to do and the best part is when a complaint is made on a public forum the players getting screwed will be the ones defending the poker site.

FWIW I posted on another forum 3 or 4 years ago about being able to others hole cards and got laughed at by everyone.Top internet pros told me it was impossible.

All the owners of these sites should be put in jail ASAP

Still the question that cannot be answerd is...what about the players making money on these sites? Granted, I'm not in the 6 figure range by any means...but after reading the many posts by hummer and his disciples, I played this weekend (putting in about 10 hours of cash games) specifically looking for "sketchy" hands. I must say...I'm still very curious why some people think the hands are manipulated. I can only recall one hand of the thousands I played where I was a little disappointed with the outcome. But other than that...it seems very legit. No really bad beats. I almost doubled my bankroll and I am satisfied with the results. I only played in one tournament and got busted by an inferior hand, but I just got unlucky. I dunno guys...I guess it's all a matter of opinion. And everyone is entitled to that. But if you think that these sites target specific accounts and somehow force them to lose, then I would have to call you insane. I'm still of the opinion that maybe people just need something on which to blame their losses. And if you're unsatisfied, stop playing. I wouldn't keep going to a restaurant that I wasn't happy with and I wouldn't complain to people who are still happy to go there because they will continue to go and continue to defend it. There are millions of people who are happy with playing online. Some are winners, and most are losers. It's not a game of perfect, otherwise we'd all be playing professionally instead of talking about it.
