Fantasy Baseball Ethics Question (lol) / Overreaction
By heavyj80 on 09-06-2008 10:44 PM

     ok...

so it's the last week before the playoffs in my money league begin. i am playing one of my best friends, who happens to be 1.5 games behind me. i am in 2nd, and he is in 3rd, with the top 2 teams gettin first round byes. both our teams are killin it with the bats this week   but he is winnin all hittin categories except the home runs. i have the whip, era, and wins on lockdown. the saves and k's are tied at the moment.

finally to the questionable activity at hand.   i had a solid lead in k's until today.  my friend dropped two of his back end starters and picked up cueto and meche. they got him to even in strikeouts.  i described these potantially shady activities to a semi respected ot member about an hour ago, and he wanted me to "lynch him".

i then looked at the league, and he has in the last few hrs dropped cueto and meche, for jonathan sanchez and kershaw, who happen to be starting tomorrow.

        my questions are...

 1. is this a semi-douche thing to do  ?    we are close friends but we both want to win.

 2. What should i do to counter this ?      im thinking of dropping cameron and randy johson,  and picking up scherzer and parra.  i also may pick up a 3rd guy to really make my point.

   any opinions ?

i may be missing the point, but this seems totally strategic and not even close to the grey line of being unethical

So in other words you think it is unethical to play waivers?

sucks for you this year, but this is why they have maximum moves...tell your commish that you want it added next year cuz you're getting raped by it this year. nobody should have a problem with it, but if it gets voted down, GTFO of that league cuz it's gay. EDIT--definitely pick up 3 starters for tomorrow and pull out the K's to win the week...if it's within the rules, then by all means have at it, sir.

you can change players before each and every game each day? in my league you have to have your roster for the week set by like an hour before the first game each monday and it stays set for the rest of the week. any changes you make are applied to the next weeks roster.

every sat/sun i look for middle of the line 2 start pitchers for the upcoming week and drop the pitchers i picket up the week before, that way i get at a higher number of pitching starts. i don't think theres anything shady about it at all. your league is set up strangely if you can add/drop pitchers every day. but if you can, theres nothing unfair about it, first come first serve imo.

Ive never played a league where you have to set it up at the start of every week.

iight                       im calm now   realize i overreacted.

i was sure i had strikeouts on lockdown,  and the fact that he's doing it just for that category was gettin at me.       but,  it is a smart move on his part,    and i will not be lynching him.      tho i did pick up scherzer and parra to counter.

Standard strategy. I prefer max moves for sure to keep it more realistic, but you've gotta play with what you're given.

On that note, I think Harang is starting tomorrow.

update:       he picks up pedro at 1250pm, 10 min before the roster deadline, giving him 3 starters to my 2.

now he forces me to semi root against my team in a big game vs the phills.
youre gettin out pitched,    seems gay you have to pick up half the sp in the mlb to compinsate.

this happenes alot in my league and there is a reason behind it, why not pick up more players to pick up a cat. or two when it's close, see nothing wrong with it either..

I'm not sure I'm following, but I know ESPN has a bug where you can fill your roster with probable pitchers on the last day of the week, and it will count them all to your score, even if you go over the maximum SP limit. We've had to create rules in our league around this.
